The Nigerian government has suspended the national carrier project indefinitely barely two months after it unveiled the name and logo of the national carrier at the Farnborough Air Show in the United Kingdom on July 2018.
Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviation announced this on Wednesday.
“I regret to announce that the Federal Executive Council has taken the tough decision to suspend the National Carrier Project in the interim. All commitments due will be honoured. We thank the public for the support as always,” he said.
The minister said the airline project was suspended for strategic reasons.
The Nigeria Air project is the nation’s third attempt at a national carrier with operations earlier expected to launch in December 2018.

The Nigerian government estimates that initial capital for the airline will range between $150m (£115m) and $300m in the first few years of operation though the government did not reveal the private sector partner.
