President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenures of the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and Nigeria Immigration Service by 18 months, retaining both officials in office until 2028.
The extension means that the Correctional Service Controller-General Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche will serve until May 26, 2028, while Immigration Service Comptroller-General Kemi Nanna Nandap will remain in office until June 30, 2028.
The decision followed a recommendation by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to address succession gaps and allow the board sufficient time to appoint replacements, according to a statement issued on Monday night by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
“The President commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains,” the statement quoted the President as saying.
PerSecondNews recalls that Nwakuche became Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service after Tinubu nominated him in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.
While Nandap’s appointment as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service followed her nomination by Tinubu on February 21, 2024.
The Senate confirmed her appointment on March 1, 2024.
The extensions will keep both officials in their respective positions beyond their previously scheduled tenure periods.
