Comoros Olympic Qualifiers: Eguavoen Names 28-Woman Super Falcons Squad

Interim Super Falcons coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad including captain Rasheedat Ajibade and star goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for next month’s Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifying clashes against Comoros.

PerSecondNews reports that experienced defenders – Michelle Alozie and Oluwatosin Demehin – also made the list alongside midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini.

Forwards Gift Monday, Asisat Oshoala, Joy Omewa and Uchenna Kanu also earned selection.

Young prospects Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei received call-ups as well.

Additional defenders named are Ashley Plumptre, Shukurat Oladipo, Glory Ogbonna and Glory Edet. Midfielder Toni Payne also featured in the group.

Nnadozie of Brighton & Hove Albion will be supported by Comfort Erhabor of Portsmouth Ladies and Edo Queens’ Christiana Uzoma.

The backline includes Alozie (Chicago Stars), Oladipo (AS Roma), Abdulwahab (Nasarawa Amazons), Ogbonna (Besiktas), Demehin (Benfica), Edet (Bayelsa Queens), Plumptre (Al-Ittihad) and Adeshina (Edo Queens).

Midfield options are Ucheibe (Al-Hilal), Igbokwe (Nasarawa Amazons), Nkwocha (FC Robo Queens), Solaty (Nasarawa Amazons), Abideen (Fenerbahce), Payne (Inter Milan) and Echegini (Paris Saint-Germain).

Up front sit include Ajibade (PSG), Oshoala (Al-Hilal), Sabastine (Benfica), Moshood (Torreense), Monday (Washington Spirit), Omewa (BK Häcken), Nkor (Dynamo Brest), Adegbuyi (Edo Queens), Akekoromowei (Benfica) and Kanu (Cruz Azul).

The invited players are expected to report at the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state on Saturday, October 3.

Comoros will officially host the first leg on Friday, October 9 as Nigeria stages the return fixture on Tuesday, October 13.

Both matches will be played at Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun state because Comoros has no CAF-approved venue for international fixtures.

PerSecondNews also reports that an aggregate victory would send the Falcons into the third round of a five-match qualifying campaign that runs until December 2027.
