The Association of Energy Correspondents, Abuja, has congratulated Abdulrazaq Isa, OFR, and Bala Wunti on their appointments as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the World Energy Council Nigeria, respectively.
In a statement signed by John Ofikhenua, the association also congratulated members of the Council’s inaugural Board, describing their combined expertise across the energy industry, regulatory institutions, finance, academia and professional associations as a strong foundation for the organisation’s work.
The association said Isa’s pioneering contributions to indigenous refining and industrial development had strengthened local participation in Nigeria’s energy sector.
It noted that his appointment as Chairman reflected the confidence placed in his leadership, entrepreneurial vision and commitment to advancing the country’s energy aspirations.
The energy correspondents also described Wunti as well suited for the role of Chief Executive Officer, citing his more than three decades of experience in the energy industry and expertise in strategy, policy formulation, revenue optimisation and sectoral reform.
“We are confident that his integrity, experience and strategic leadership will take the Council and Nigeria’s wider energy sector to lofty heights,” the statement said.
The association described Nigeria’s return to the World Energy Council as timely and significant, noting that it had restored the country’s place within one of the world’s most influential energy networks.
According to the group, Nigeria’s membership will provide a platform for the country to contribute to global discussions on energy security, affordability, sustainability and an equitable energy transition.
It added that the development could help attract investment, deepen international partnerships, encourage technological innovation and ensure that Nigerian and African priorities are adequately represented in global energy decisions.
The association commended President Bola Tinubu for facilitating Nigeria’s return to the Council, describing the move as further evidence of the administration’s commitment to repositioning the country as a leading voice in the global energy community.
It also pledged to support the Council through informed public dialogue and greater awareness of the policies, investments and innovations required to secure Nigeria’s energy future.
The association wished Isa, Wunti and the inaugural Board success as they undertake what it described as a historic responsibility in service to Nigeria, Africa and the global energy community.
