Barely two weeks after a deadly attack was launched, another attempt to breach the security perimeter of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, was foiled late on Wednesday, July 1, after security operatives repelled armed assailants and killed one of them. The institute’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday.

Persecondnews reported that gunmen had on June 16 attacked the institute, killing three security personnel, including two soldiers and a police officer, before security operatives repelled the assault.
He noted that the assailants engaged security forces in a fierce gun duel but were forced to retreat under a swift, coordinated counter-response.

“One attacker was killed in the encounter, while the rest fled with varying degrees of injuries.

“There was no breach of the security perimeter. All participants, staff, residents and Institute facilities remain safe and secure,” the statement said.

The institute said security agencies had intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while surveillance and other proactive security measures had been further strengthened within and around the institute.

NIPSS reassured participants, staff, their families and the general public that the security of lives and property remains its highest priority.

It also commended the prompt response and professionalism of the security agencies and urged the public to disregard misinformation capable of causing unnecessary anxiety.
