Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, a former PDP senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter dated May 31 to state APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, the former Ogun Central representative cited persistent disrespect, unfair treatment, and marginalization by the party’s Ogun State leadership.
Obasanjo, who recently ran for the APC governorship ticket, heavily criticized the consensus process that selected Sen. Solomon Adeola (Yayi) as the flagbearer.
She noted that despite her willingness to respect a consensus arrangement, she was completely sidelined and excluded from consultations.
Furthermore, she alleged that her supporters were intimidated and blocked from entering the venue where Adeola was unveiled.
“Following his emergence, Senator Adeola requested a meeting with my supporters, during which three requests were presented. He promised a response within a week. More than two months later, no feedback has been received,” Obasanjo said.
“The treatment I have received reflects a consistent pattern of rejection and disrespect. When disrespect is the only dish served, one should leave the table. I am therefore leaving the APC table where I am not welcomed.”
Despite cutting ties with the party, Obasanjo made sure to thank President Bola Tinubu, Ogun APC Chairman Chief Sanusi, and the Ogun Central Senatorial leadership for their hospitality during her stint.
The move marks a dramatic U-turn for the veteran politician, who had only just re-entered active politics in late 2025.

This sudden APC exit cuts short the latest chapter for Obasanjo, whose political resume includes serving as Ogun State Health Commissioner (2003–2007) and representing Ogun Central in the Senate (2007–2011).
