In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general election, the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential flagbearer.
The resolution was passed at a special national convention attended by key stakeholders and delegates at the group’s secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
While Jonathan was not physically present to accept the draft, his nomination was formally sealed in absentia.
Bayelsa lawmaker Fred Agbedi stepped in to receive the Certificate of Return on the former president’s behalf.
Persecondnews recalls that another PDP faction backed by Federal Capital Territory, FCT, minister Nyesom Wike, had elected Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, the rival faction led by Wike has swiftly debunked reports claiming that Jonathan has emerged as the party’s 2027 presidential standard-bearer.
On his part, the former president has yet to issue an official statement regarding his adoption by the Turaki-led camp.
