The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed claims that the postponement of its House of Representatives primaries was caused by internal crisis within the ruling party.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, cleared the misconception during an interview on Channels Television monitored by Persecondnews on Friday evening.

He noted that the decision was taken because of delays in the screening process across some states.

“The change was necessitated by purely logistical reasons. Some committees experienced delays in reporting back on the outcome of the screening exercises and the party needed time to compile the reports before dispatching committees for the primaries,” Morka said.

The APC spokesman denied allegations that disagreements within the party forced the postponement.

He further insisted that the process remains in line with the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

According to him, the consensus option only succeeds where all aspirants agree, adding that the process automatically shifts to direct primaries whenever there is an objection.

“Where any aspirant declines to give consent to the outcome of the consensus process, the system automatically defaults to direct primaries,” he stated.

Morka also dismissed suggestions that protests in some states signaled a growing rebellion within the APC ahead of the primaries.

“There is no rebellion in the party. What you are describing happens in every democracy where people express concerns when things do not go their way,” he said.

The APC spokesman maintained that the party leadership remains committed to a transparent process and denied allegations of intimidation and candidate imposition raised by some aspirants.

“Where consensus is achieved, it will be adopted, but where it fails, direct primaries will take place. Nothing has changed in the party’s position.”

The postponement of the House of Representatives primaries had triggered speculations, with some party members alleging attempts at manipulation and imposition of candidates in several states.

The APC leadership, however, insists the process remains transparent and fully guided by the Electoral Act and the constitution of the party.

Persecondnews recalls that the APC House of Representatives primaries were earlier scheduled for Friday, May 15, before the exercise was shifted by one day to Saturday, May 16, 2026.
