CAF Leadership Shakeup: General Secretary Quits After AFCON Final

108

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been plunged into further uncertainty following the resignation of General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba.

While Mosengo-Omba officially framed his departure as a retirement, it coincides with intense scrutiny over CAF’s recent decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title and the abrupt postponement of the women’s tournament.

These high-profile controversies have triggered a crisis of confidence in the governing body’s leadership, a sentiment echoed in Mosengo-Omba’s Sunday statement where he acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure.

“Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me, I can retire with peace.”
