The Nigerian Senate witnessed a significant political realignment on Thursday as nine senators from various parties formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The group, which includes high-profile figures like former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and veteran lawmaker Enyinnaya Abaribe, cited persistent internal crises and leadership disputes within their former parties as the primary reasons for the move.

The mass defection was made official during plenary when Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the lawmakers’ resignation letters. Other senators joining the ADC include Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye (Anambra), Binos Yaroe (Adamawa), Lawal Usman (Kaduna), Ogoshi Onawo (Nasarawa), Augustine Akobundu (Abia), and Ireti Kingibe (FCT).
