The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of its newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Yesiro Karamo.

The tragic news emerged on Thursday, just hours before Karamo was scheduled to be inaugurated alongside the new State Executive Council.

His election was finalized only days prior during the party’s consensus congress held last Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan, where he joined the leadership team led by State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi.

In a somber statement, State Publicity Secretary Seye Oladejo described the loss as “heart-wrenching and calamitous,” noting that Karamo was a man of “unflinching loyalty” who remained deeply committed to the party’s core ideals.

The planned inauguration at the party’s secretariat in Acme, Ogba, was abruptly deferred as a mark of respect for the vibrant politician.

Party stalwarts and supporters, who had gathered in high spirits for the ceremony, were met with the melancholy news of the postponement.

Following the announcement, party leaders embarked on a sympathetic condolence visit to the bereaved family.

Sources within the party indicate that the inauguration has been rescheduled for Friday, March 6.

The APC lauded Karamo as a dynamic force whose ardent commitment to the party’s growth was instrumental in his rise to the state executive level.

His tenure, though tragically brief, was marked by an infectious enthusiasm and a selfless readiness to serve.

The Tuesday congress that saw Karamo’s election into office was a high-profile event attended by heavyweights, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke during the state party congress held at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, hailed the “peaceful, orderly and outstanding” event, urging leaders and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state to ensure that the chapter becomes the reference point in the country.

Cornelius Ojelabi, chairman of the APC in Lagos State, was re-elected by 1,705 delegates at the state congress.

Also re-elected by consensus and affirmation were Moshood Mayegun (deputy chairman), Adeola Jokomba (secretary), Seye Oladejo (publicity secretary), Ayodele Adewale (organising secretary), Muritala Seriki (youth leader), Yesiru Karamo (assistant publicity secretary), Azizat Mariam (assistant secretary), and Folashade Bakare (legal adviser).
