The Bayelsa State House of Assembly on Tuesday gave expeditious unanimous approval to the nomination of the Chief of Staff to the governor, Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe, as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
His confirmation has finally resolved weeks of suspense that followed the sudden passing away of the former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, on December 11, 2025.
Governor Douye Diri had forwarded  Akpe’s name to the House to replace the deceased Deputy Governor.
Before stepping into his current role at Government House, Akpe had served wit
as the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly, bringing valuable legislative experience to the executive team.
The selection of Akpe preserves the geographic distribution of power in Bayelsa State.
As a resident of Ebedebiri in the Sagbama Local Government Area, his confirmation ensures that the deputy governorship remains within the same constituency previously represented by Ewhrudjakpo.
