Electricity generation across the country may dip temporarily as scheduled maintenance on a major gas supply facility disrupts fuel delivery to several thermal power plants.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) disclosed on Thursday that it received formal notice of a maintenance shutdown which started to run from February 12 to February and will end on the February 15 , 2026.

Full gas supply is expected to resume on February 16.

According to the operator, the maintenance will reduce gas availability to a number of plants linked to the affected supply network.

Power stations likely to be directly impacted include Egbin, Azura, Sapele and Transcorp plants.

Others such as NDPHC Sapele, Olorunsogo and Omotosho may also feel the strain due to broader gas balancing across the network.

The development is expected to lower thermal generation capacity on the national grid during the period, it said.

NISO said it would implement real time operational measures to maintain grid stability and prevent system disturbances.

To manage the shortage, load shedding will be coordinated with Distribution Companies, strictly prioritizing critical infrastructure, essential services, and security installations.

The National Control Centre (NCC) is intensifying its monitoring and contingency efforts to ensure power is distributed as fairly as possible.

While NISO asks for public patience and understanding, it emphasized that the maintenance is vital for the long-term safety and reliability of the gas infrastructure supporting the national grid.
