"The commission is carefully managing every procedural and technical component to provide a flawless contest, with preparations intensifying now that only five days remain until race day"

With only five days to the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Nigeria’s Road Racing Commission says it is fine-tuning operations to ensure the event meets global standards.

Under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Akuchukwu Aghazu, the commission is overseeing every technical detail to guarantee a seamless experience for athletes and spectators alike.

“As the leading oversight entity for road competitions throughout Nigeria, we stand ready to push boundaries higher through the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, highlighting our country’s resolve toward outstanding sports oversight,” Aghazu said in a statement given to Persecondnews on Tuesday.

Emphasizing runner efficiency and protection, the Commission is refining the complete 42-km trail to build a prime competitive milieu, integrating lengthened straight pathways, decreased hindrances, more generous boulevards, sophisticated live-event supervision, judiciously positioned refueling spots, and clearly outlined fan engagement areas.

“Our work within the racing commission centers on ensuring that race organizers craft an elite setup for the marathon span, including prolonged continuous portions, restrained disruptions, ampler routes, polished coordination throughout the proceedings, cleverly placed beverage hubs, and sharply delineated sections for supporter cheers,” Aghazu stated.

Race referees, referred to as TOs, constitute the critical core of endurance running contests, assuring that activities unfold securely, justly, and aligned with preset directives and protocols.

They function as the ethical guidepost of the gathering, navigating the nuances of avenue-oriented challenges to furnish a superior involvement for all entrants, spanning from top-tier professionals to leisure enthusiasts.

“Absent these competition supervisors, the legitimacy of an endurance event—covering its verified span, logged durations, and standings—stays unassured. They hold a key position in preserving the principled and functional criteria of the activity,” Aghazu added.

Aghazu underscored the marathon’s larger ambition to boost Nigeria’s global road racing profile.

“This contest aims to affirm Nigeria as an elite centre for global athletic extravaganzas,” she added.

While the commission handles the regulatory framework, the inventive route layout and enhancements stem from the event organizers – Nilayo Sports Management Limited – ensuring a dynamic and engaging path for all in this World Athletics Gold Label race.

A prominent element of this Valentine’s Day celebration is the dedicated ₦11 million reward allocation provided by Nilayo Sports Management Limited for home-based entrants in the 42-km division, designed to heighten domestic participation.

This impressive ₦11 million contribution from Nilayo Sports Management Limited illustrates the competition’s pledge to advancing local contenders, inspiring broader engagement, and creating an arena for Nigerian stars to contend against premier worldwide performers.
