Barely two months after a crippling fire outbreak, Singa Market in Kano metropolis has been hit by another inferno, leaving traders and residents in panic and huge losses.

Persecondnews reports that the inferno, which started around 3:00 a.m., affected several sections of the market, including Gidan Mazaf, Gidan Taki, and Gidan Katsinawa along Bello Road.

Millions of naira worth of goods were destroyed as the fire spread rapidly, engulfing merchandise and valuable property.

Witnesses reported that emergency responders arrived late, exacerbating the damage.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, and authorities have not released information on potential casualties,” said a market source.

Persecondnews recalls that the November fire, which destroyed at least 44 shops and stores, was attributed to a faulty electrical connection.

ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, had previously explained that improper management of the central switch likely caused the November fire.

“The rescue operation faced challenges due to poor road access,” he said.

The fire service has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents and business owners to ensure proper electrical installations.

The November fire destroyed 25 temporary shops and 19 stores on the upper floor of Alhaji Abdulmunafi Yunusa House, but firefighters managed to prevent it from spreading.

The incessant fires have raised concerns about market safety and infrastructure with the traders calling for improved emergency response measures and infrastructure upgrades.
