Osun 2026: Ex-NIWA Boss, Bola Oyebamiji Emerges APC Candidate

788

Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Osun State governorship election slated for August 8, 2026.

His adoption followed an agreement reached at the party’s primary in Osogbo on Saturday, where seven co-aspirants threw their support behind him.

The consensus motion was put forward by Mr. Kunle Rasheed (SAN) and backed by Sen. Babajide Omoworare.

The party’s decision was finalized by a voice vote, with 1,660 delegates from the state’s 30 local government areas overwhelmingly ratifying Oyebamiji’s candidacy.

“By the power vested in me, I declare Oyebamiji as the APC candidate for Aug. 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun,” Edo Gov. Monday Okpebholo, who presided over the exercise, announced.

He commended the seven aspirants for sacrificing their personal ambitions for the state’s welfare.

He insisted that party unity is essential for an APC victory in 2026 and called on the co-aspirants to rally behind Oyebamiji.

Furthermore, he urged the electorate to support a development-focused candidate, declaring, “we are tired of dancing.”

In response, Oyebamiji accepted the nomination, thanking the other aspirants for their support and acknowledging the backing of APC leaders and elders, particularly praising President Bola Tinubu’s leadership in maintaining party unity.

Oyebamiji promised to serve and improve the welfare of the people, confidently affirming that the APC would take over the state government in the 2026 election.

Persecondnews reports that the primary was witnessed by a host of high-profile political figures.

Present at the event were governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and Suleiman Abdullahi of Nasarawa, alongside former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello.

Also in attendance were key party and federal officials, including the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola (who is the immediate past governor of the state), and APC National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru.

The proceedings were also observed by several party chieftains and officials from the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
