After taking a long break from appearing in movies, actress-turned-politician Funke Adesiyan is plotting a return to Nollywood, Per Second News has learnt.

Adesiyan, the Ibadan-born actress and politician, has in the past made several attempts to secure an elective political position, including bids for the Oyo State House of Assembly and, more recently, the House of Representatives, but her political ambitions have yet to materialise.

However, with her political journey taking a different turn, the actress, who is popularly known by her screen name, Amope, appears ready to return to the profession that first brought her into the limelight.

Speaking during a chat with Per Second News on Saturday, Adesiyan admitted that she missed acting and the atmosphere that comes with working on movie locations.

“I miss acting. I miss the location shenanigans, the laughter, the bonding and everything that comes with being on a movie set,” she said.

According to her, although she has been away from active acting for some time, her passion for the profession has never disappeared.

“I have not stopped loving acting. I only took a break to attend to other things, but the passion is still there. I will definitely be returning to movies soon,” she said.

The actress also assured fans that her return would not be a tentative one, promising to come back with the same energy and confidence that audiences have always associated with her.

“When I come back, it will be as though I never left. I know it has been a while, but I am still an actress and I know what I can do,” she said.

Asked whether she believed she still had what it takes to compete in a fast-changing Nollywood industry, Adesiyan, a former aide to Aisha Buhari, wife of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, said she had never doubted her abilities.

“I have never for once doubted myself. Acting is part of me. You can take a person away from the stage for some time, but you cannot take the stage away from the person,” she said.

She added that her years away from the industry had given her new experiences that could ultimately enrich her performances when she returns to the screen.

“I have experienced life differently. I have been involved in politics, met different people and seen different sides of life. All of these experiences will come with me when I return to acting,” she said.

On her political career and whether she would be seeking another elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections, Adesiyan explained that her most recent political decision was influenced by the need to respect party supremacy.

She said she was advised to step down in favour of another strong contender and chose to respect the decision rather than create division within the party.

“I was told to step down for another strong contender, and I had to respect party supremacy. Politics is not just about personal ambition. Sometimes, you have to put the interest of the party first,” she said.

For now, however, Adesiyan appears to be turning her attention back to Nollywood, where she began her journey, with the actress hinting that fans should expect to see her on movie locations again soon.

“I have missed it, honestly. I miss the people, the work and even the location shenanigans. So, yes, I am coming back,” she said.
