Just three days before the Osun State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has added Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Dr. Francis Olugbenga Ajala, to the ballot.
The addition follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja on July 22, 2026, which ordered INEC to process and publish Ajala’s details as the official SDP flagbearer.
The commission said Ajala and his running mate, Faseke Babajimi Oladipo, have consequently been added to the ballot for the August 15 governorship election, bringing the number of participating political parties to 15.
INEC further stated that it is reproducing the ballot papers and result sheets to reflect the inclusion, a development that comes just three days before voters head to the polls.
The reproduced ballot papers are expected to arrive in Osun State on Thursday, August 13, before being distributed the same day to Local Government Area offices across the state.
Mohammed Kudu Haruna National Commissioner, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement obtained by PersecondNews on Wednesday.
He emphasized that the Commission remains committed to conducting a free, fair and credible election.
The late addition means voters will encounter an updated ballot and result sheet when they participate in the August 15 poll, with INEC moving to ensure the court-ordered inclusion is reflected across election materials.
