A new application phase has been opened for the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), as the Federal Government says over N13 billion in interest-free financial support has been provided to tertiary institution workers under the 2025/2026 cycle.
The Ministry of Education disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, obtained by Persecondnews.
Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the programme as a key reform tool, noting that no education system can perform better than its workforce.
“This programme reflects our commitment to improving the welfare and financial wellbeing of academic and non-academic staff across public tertiary institutions nationwide.
“The completion of the 2025/2026 cycle shows strong nationwide demand and significant impact across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education,” he said.
The intervention is one of the largest staff welfare schemes in Nigeria’s education sector, covering 153 public tertiary institutions across the country.
The scheme, established by the Federal Ministry of Education and implemented in conjunction with the Bank of Industry, provides interest-free loans of up to N10 million to eligible staff.
Persecondnews recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had restated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of education workers who drive teaching, learning, research, and innovation in tertiary institutions.
He urged eligible staff to apply for the next phase, stressing continued investment in human capital development as essential to national progress.
“Since October 28, 2025, the scheme has processed over 42,000 applications through its digital platform across all six geopolitical zones.
“Universities received 52 per cent of support allocations, while colleges of education and polytechnics accounted for 25 per cent and 23 per cent respectively,” he added.
Additionally, female participants accounted for 19 per cent, prompting expanded outreach to improve inclusion in the next phase.
The statement further stressed, that applications for the 2026/2027 cycle of the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) will open at the end of June 2026, with eligible staff advised to follow official Ministry channels for further details and guidelines.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the education system through staff welfare, institutional growth, and improved learning outcomes.
