The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash O. Amupitan (SAN) is leading a delegation in Seoul, South Korea, for a week-long International Election Observation Programme (IEOP).
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework through global insights and capacity building.
According to an INEC statement obtained on Saturday, the team is collaborating with international electoral experts and stakeholders, with a specific focus on studying global best practices for conducting local government elections.
The delegation includes National Commissioner Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Chief Technical Adviser Prof. Dimis Mai-Lafia, and Director of Training Dr. Binta Kasim Mohammed.
The programme provides INEC with first-hand exposure to advanced electoral processes, observation standards, and governance models, aimed at strengthening its capacity in election administration.
The delegation is expected to draw lessons that could further enhance institutional efficiency and electoral observation practices in Nigeria.
The programme runs from 29 May to 5 June 2026 in Seoul, alongside South Korea’s Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections, bringing together election management bodies, experts and international observers to exchange knowledge on electoral governance.
