Former presidential adviser and ex-lawmaker, Babafemi Ojudu, has reignited debate over the political legacy of former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, accusing him of fostering intolerance and deploying state and party structures against perceived opponents during his time in office.
In a lengthy personal reflection centered on karma and political consequences, Ojudu recounted how he and several APC leaders in Ekiti allegedly faced persecution after openly criticizing Fayemi’s administration.
According to Ojudu, pressure was allegedly mounted on ward executives to orchestrate the expulsion of dissenting party members, including himself, Senator Tony Adeniyi, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo and Hon. Bimbo Daramola.
He claimed that his ward chairman, Mr. Clement Afolabi, was allegedly harassed, arrested and detained for refusing to cooperate with efforts to expel him from the party.
Ojudu further alleged that security agencies were later used to pursue him and his allies on claims of criminal libel, despite interventions by the national leadership of the APC to calm tensions within the Ekiti chapter of the party.
The former senator also recalled what he described as symbolic acts of political hostility during Fayemi’s tenure, including an alleged attempt by local party officials to publicly “return” bags of rice he had distributed to party members during the COVID-19 period.
He noted that many politicians who once stood firmly with Fayemi have since reportedly turned against him, describing it as evidence of the changing nature of political power.
Ojudu said he found it ironic that Fayemi is now publicly speaking against intolerance and abuse of internal party structures, arguing that similar practices allegedly flourished under Fayemi’s leadership as governor and later as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
“Many who laboured for Fayemi’s emergence found themselves pushed into political exile, isolated from party structures and treated as enemies,” Ojudu wrote.
Despite the criticism, Ojudu said he has forgiven Fayemi and acknowledged that both men still maintain cordial relations.
The reflection has since stirred conversations within political circles, especially among APC stakeholders familiar with past internal crises in Ekiti politics.
