What began as a routine Sunday evening at a popular local spot at Angwan Rukuba in Jos North of Plateau State has ended in horror.

At about 8:00pm, unidentified armed men—believed to be members of a cult—stormed the area, unleashing a hail of bullets on unsuspecting residents, Persecondnews learnt.

In the chaotic aftermath, 12 lives were confirmed lost, while a number of injured victims were rushed to local medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Information Commissioner Joyce Lohya Ramnap described the event as a “tragic security incident.”

“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect, commencing from 12 midnight of 29th March, to 1st April, 2026,” she stated in an official release.

Ramnap added: “The administration, under Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, strongly condemns this barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens and assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

She further appealed to residents, saying, “Citizens are urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations.”

In a swift security response, troops from Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace have been deployed to the scene to avert any escalation.

The soldiers have sealed off major access roads into the community, instructing everyone to remain indoors while a coordinated search operation is underway to track down and arrest the attackers.
