Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential aspirant, has expressed the optimism that Atiku Abubakar can still unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Despite the APC’s control over 31 states, Momodu argued that the former Vice President Atiku remains a formidable challenger.

Appearing on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, the Ovation magazine publisher suggested that the North would consolidate its support behind Atiku, drawing a parallel to the bloc-voting that favoured former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Momodu noted that Atiku’s long-term preparation for the presidency dates back to 1993, when he stepped down for the late MKO Abiola.

He said: “On who will be able to defeat Tinubu, I have always said it and it’s not a secret that today after Buhari in the North, they have a queuing system from analysis.

“From Atiku, even those who did not like Atiku before, he is beginning to smell like roses to them because the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

“So Atiku, if he runs, he has prepared forever just like Donald Trump prepared forever. They said Trump is old and like joke he is doing his second term now.

“Atiku started from 1993 when he stepped down for MKO Abiola and that’s where my fascination for him started from and he’s there waiting.

“His people will support him and defend their votes. Rigging is impossible when you talk about the overwhelming majority.”

Persecondnews reports that the APC’s grip on Nigeria’s political landscape has tightened to 31 states, with Bauchi potentially next in line.

Given this expansive control, analysts suggest that opposition forces face a steep uphill battle in their bid to upstage the ruling party in 2027.
