Police Inspector General Tunji Disu has pushed for a deeper partnership with the media to bolster national security.

Speaking during a meeting with the FCT chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday, Disu stressed that law enforcement alone cannot solve Nigeria’s security challenges.

“I have worked with journalists, and I say it with all my heart that you are professionals,” Disu stated, praising their role in supporting police efforts.

Making a call to action, Disu urged all citizens—especially media practitioners—to play an active role in the nation’s defence.

“The nation is in a particular security situation now, and we need everybody to come together to salvage the nation. We don’t have another country. If you see something, please say something. The life you save might be your own,” Disu said.

The IGP also urged police personnel to maintain respectful behavior toward the public, enabling them to return to previously served areas and receive a warm reception.

“As a policeman, can you go back to where you have worked before and be welcomed? That is a lesson for all policemen and for everyone,” he remarked.

Disu clarified that while Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid handles official police communications, he personally remains accessible to journalists through his direct contact channels.

NUJ FCT Council Chairperson Grace Ike welcomed the IGP’s visit, describing it as a sign of his supportive stance toward the press.

“We are glad that the Inspector-General of Police is here to visit journalists. It shows he is a friend of the press. We will do everything humanly possible to use our pen to support efforts to make insecurity a thing of the past,” she said.
