Exclusive: Éric Chelle set to sign new Super Eagles contract after AFCON success

The speculation surrounding Eric Chelle’s future has finally been put to rest, with the Super Eagles coach poised to sign a new deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

A decisive meeting held Tuesday in Abuja between Chelle, his representatives, and Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), has cleared the path for a formal extension.

This move follows a standout performance at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, where Chelle guided Nigeria to a bronze medal—a feat that has made him a high-demand target for several other national teams.

Persecondnews correspondent spotted Chelle at the NSC DG’s Office with his manager before the high level meeting.

An inside source after the meeting disclosed that: ” There is a green light he is definitely getting a new contract, it’s easy with him, the team is better with him.”

The meeting was “mere window dressing,” according to one source, who confirmed that the NFF had already committed to keeping the coach.

Having restored hope to the Nigerian game with a podium finish in Morocco, Chelle is now expected to use this contract extension to cement his legacy and push the Super Eagles toward a new era of African dominance.
