Exclusive: Peter Obi Under Fire as APC Rep Questions His Political Credentials

"Tinubu is virtually unopposable in 2027, it's crystal clear that the man knows exactly what it takes to lead"

Clement Jimbo, the vocal House of Representatives member from Akwa Ibom, has cast doubt on Peter Obi’s presidential ambitions, labeling the former Labour Party candidate unfit for the office due to a “leadership deficit.”

In an exclusive interview with Persecondnews in Abuja—set to premiere on YouTube this Friday—Jimbo characterized Obi’s frequent criticisms as “unpatriotic” rather than constructive opposition.

The lawmaker, representing the Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency, has sparked significant debate ahead of the 2027 elections with his candid assessment.

He said:” You cannot keep running down the country in every available platform and still want to lead that same country. With all the gains of this administration he constantly paint the country bad, that not opposition.

“Can you point to me one valuable idea or suggestion he has put forward to develop the country. If you don’t contribute, you can’t criticize.”

Drawing on his experience as a 2019 SDP presidential aspirant, Jimbo asserted that President Tinubu will be virtually unbeatable or “unopposable” in 2027.

He praised the President’s governance, stating: “It’s crystal clear that the man knows exactly what it takes to lead.”

Jimbo expressed a strong confidence in the Tinubu administration’s direction.

“If you are a leader of a political party there are certain responsibilities associated with that position, Tinubu has played his role as the president and leader of APC excellently well.

“Look at the economy turn around. When he came into power the numbers of governors we had and now is mind blowing, if you come to the 10th Assembly we are leading in numbers as well.

“This is something you can’t say of Peter Obi, he has moved from APGA to PDP, LP and now in ADC, you can’t say same about Tinubu he has never been to the PDP, he has been principled from the start,” the federal Lawmaker told Persecondnews.

In a bold forecast, Jimbo envisions a “seismic shift” that could dismantle the Labour Party’s stronghold in the South East.

While Obi commanded a staggering 90% of the vote in 2023 (1.96 million votes compared to Tinubu’s 127,605), Jimbo believes the tide is turning.

Doubling down on his APC allegiance, the lawmaker points to the strategic leadership of Gov. Hope Uzodimma as the catalyst for a regional comeback.

“The winds of change are blowing,” Jimbo asserts, betting on a drastically different outcome in the next cycle.

“A man of substance, leading the pack of APC governors – it’s a game-changer for our party.”

With Uzodimma as the Director-General of APC Outreach, Engagement, and Mobilization, Jimbo’s confidence is palpable.

“We are not just fighting for victory – we are fighting to reclaim our place in the sun.”

“For the first time in Abia state there is huge infrastructure turn around, the Governor of Enugu state is regarded as one the best performing governor in the country this all down to the leadership dynamics of the current administration.

“This is the due to the robust financial disbursements to the 36 state governors primarily due to fiscal reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidies.

“For the 2024–2025 period, total allocations to the 36 states reportedly rose from ₦3.8 trillion to ₦7.1 trillion,” he added.

Citing federal efforts to mitigate economic strain, Jimbo pointed to a ₦570 billion release to state governments for citizen support.

Though governors have pushed back—labeling the funds as NG-CARES reimbursements rather than federal aid—the lawmaker insists the impact remains significant.

He further revealed that the FG has set aside ₦10 billion for every state to accelerate infrastructure growth.
