As part of the activities marking his 10th Coronation Anniversary, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, officially launched the Ile-Ife Campus of Ojaja University on Saturday.
The first class monarch described the new institution as a “legacy project” and a non-profit-making model intended to drive educational reform across Nigeria.
Speaking at the campus event, Oba Ogunwusi acknowledged the positive influence of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR.
The Sultan, in turn, commended the Ooni for his significant investments in key sectors such as education and health.
“I thank Almighty Allah during our time that we have people like you really committed to enhancing the lives of our people,” the Sultan said.
In his address, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, Ojaja University, Prof. Lere Baale, disclosed that the university was not just an educational institution but a cultural embassy.
Baale said the university is a centre for African leadership renewal and a home for entrepreneurs, scientists, agriculturalists and cultural scholars.
Supporting the vision, Prof. Jeleel Ojuade, the Vice-Chancellor of the university’s main campus in Eyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, commended the launch, stating that the university is a crucial tool for generational empowerment.
Persecondnews reports that the grand ceremony attracted an array of high-profile dignitaries and traditional leaders.
These included the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi; the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin; the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedeji; and the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole.
Other notable guests included Chief Toyin Kolade (Iyalaje Oodua) and Dr Afolashade Shona-Aluko (Yeye Bobajiro Oodua).
