Funke Akindele reconciles with Fathia Williams, sends her surprise premiere invite

In what many fans have described as one of the most unexpected reconciliations in Nollywood this season, actresses Funke Akindele and Fathia Williams appear to have quietly put their long-running dispute behind them.

Their relationship, once warm and sisterly, had gone cold for years, sparking rumours, online commentary and silent tensions within the Yoruba movie circle.

The reconciliation became public when Fathia shared a package from Funke on Instagram, revealing it was an invitation to the upcoming premiere of Akindele’s new movie, Behind the Scenes.

The gift box, carefully arranged and branded, melted through what seemed like layers of old grudges and unspoken words, instantly becoming a talking point among fans and colleagues.

For almost three years, Fathia had deliberately stayed away from public events or industry gatherings where she could come in contact with Funke.

Their rift, subtle at first, gradually became visible when both actresses stopped engaging with each other online.

Soon after, it evolved into open silence, unfollows, blocked accounts, missing birthday messages and the absence of collaboration that many hoped to see.

Things intensified publicly last year when Fathia accused Funke of blocking her on Instagram because she supported Mercy Aigbe and her movie.

It was a bold moment. Fathia stated openly that Funke was neither her God nor someone she feared, implying that the block didn’t shake her confidence.

The subtle exchanges may have deepened the tension, marking a low moment for fans who adored them individually.

Behind the scenes, industry sources whispered about rivalry, ego, and old wounds that were never addressed.

Some attributed it to competition in the movie market; others linked it to past misunderstandings involving mutual friends.

None of the actresses ever publicly detailed the exact origin of their fallout, adding a mysterious layer that made the feud more talked about.

But time has a way of softening edges.

The festive mood in the film industry, coupled with renewed spirit among creatives preparing for December releases, perhaps helped open a door many thought was locked permanently.

This time, Funke took the bold step, a gesture wrapped not only in invitation cards and ribbons, but also in maturity.

When Fathia received the package, she shared it without bitterness or subtle shade.

Her caption was warm and surprisingly cheerful, praising Funke’s consistency and ability to deliver cinematic hits.

It was not a post from someone holding on to grudges, but from a colleague ready to move on.

“Funkejenifaakindele never disappoints!” she wrote excitedly, confirming that Behind the Scenes will premiere on December 7, 2025, and hit cinemas by December 12.

Her tone suggested admiration, something that seemed lost during the years of silence.

This development has sparked widespread positive reactions online, with fans expressing gratitude to see two influential women choosing unity over rivalry.

Movie lovers described the reconciliation as “long overdue” and expressed hopes of seeing the pair work together soon.

Many specifically wish to see them appear in a film side-by-side once again, reminiscent of their collaborations during the earlier years of Nollywood’s growth.
