Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri formally switched from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, November 3, drawing thousands of supporters to Yenagoa, the state capital.
The crowd, a blend of white t-shirts and colorful outfits, packed the 5,000-capacity Samson Siasia Stadium.
Diri, who resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over two weeks ago, was welcomed by prominent APC members, including Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and former Edo Governor, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole.
The ceremony marked a significant shift in Bayelsa’s political landscape, with Diri citing the move as being in the state’s best interest.
“Somebody had to take the decision, and I took it on behalf of Bayelsans,” he said, emphasizing unity and development.
The event drew dignitaries from across the zone, including Ondo Governor Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the Minister of Regional Development Engineering Abubakar Momoh.
