The All Progressives Congress (APC) comfortably gained a two-third majority in the House of Representatives on Thursday, October 30, with the defections of six members of the opposition parties.

Persecondnews reports that five People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members from the South East and one Labour Party (LP) member from Plateau State defected to the APC during Thursday’s plenary.

The lawmakers who defected are: Rep. Daniel Asama Ado (Plateau), Rep. Chidi Mark Obetta (Enugu), Rep. Phillips Anayo Owuegbu (Enugu), Rep. Nnaji Nnolim (Enugu), Rep. Denis Agbo (Enugu) and Rep. Matthew Nwogu (Imo).

The defection of the six lawmakers brings the number of APC members in the House to 242 members, leaving the PDP with 74 members.

In their separate letters read on the floor of the House by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, they all alluded to lingering leadership crisis in the two parties as reasons for their defections.

National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Enugu Governor Peter Mbah and former Minister of Defence, Fedelia Njeze were among party leaders who witnessed the defections.
