Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs has led to the cancellation of proposed international friendlies with Venezuela and Colombia by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), according to an official.

NFF official, who spoke to Persecondnews correspondent on condition of anonymity on Thursday, confirmed the latest development, citing the resounding 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital.

The official said: “The victory in Uyo secured our spot in the playoffs hence the cancellation of the games so that the team can focus on the task ahead.”

Persecondnews reports that the Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-final of the African playoffs on November 13, with the winner advancing to the final against the winner of the Cameroon-Democratic Republic of Congo match.

The final is scheduled for November 16, with the winner representing Africa in the inter-confederation playoffs in March 2026.

The playoffs offer Nigeria a second chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will feature an expanded 48-team format.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Nigeria’s path to the World Cup will be determined by their performance in the playoffs, with the winner earning a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.

The Super Eagles will be led by their star players, including Victor Osimhen, who scored a hat-trick in their match against Benin Republic.
