Victor Boniface’s agent is set to touch down in Italy on Thursday for crucial talks with AC Milan, as the club is close to agreeing on a loan deal with Bayer Leverkusen.

A club-to-club agreement has reportedly been reached for an initial loan move, with a €30m buy option clause that would allow Milan to make the transfer permanent next summer.

This development could potentially scupper Rasmus Hojlund’s chances of joining the Serie A giants on loan from Manchester United.

Milan had been keen on signing Hojlund on loan, but the Denmark forward’s demands for an obligation to buy clause have stalled the negotiations.

With Boniface emerging as a top target, Milan is now prioritizing the Nigerian striker’s potential.

The 22-year-old Hojlund had declared his intention to remain at United earlier this month, and the club’s signing of Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko for £73.7m has further complicated his chances of leaving.

Hojlund’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, with the striker being left on the bench in the final pre-season match against Fiorentina and subsequently omitted from Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Premier League defeat by Arsenal.

Amorim cited similarities between Hojlund and Sesko as the reason for his decision, leaving Hojlund’s prospects at United hanging in the balance.

Meanwhile, Napoli is also on the hunt for a number nine after Romelu Lukaku suffered a thigh injury that could rule him out for up to four months.

The Italian side may join Milan in the race for Boniface’s signature, further heating up the transfer market.
