In a historic achievement, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has climbed three places to 8th in the world in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings.

With 640.1 points, the reigning African champions have proven their mettle on the global stage, surpassing Brazil and Serbia in the process.

This impressive ranking is a reward to the team’s remarkable rise, which began with their stunning performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

D’Tigress’s journey to the top 10 began with their historic run at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where they became the first African team to reach the quarter-finals.

Since then, they have maintained their momentum through dominant performances in AfroBasket and other international competitions.

Their consistent wins have earned them a spot among the world’s best, and they continue to inspire a new generation of African basketball players.

The latest rankings also highlight the growing strength of African basketball, with Mali jumping six spots to 18th globally, and Senegal sitting at 25th.

Other African nations in the top 50 include Mozambique (32nd), Cameroon (35th), and Egypt (43rd).

D’Tigress’s upward trajectory signals that they are not just chasing African dominance but aiming to compete with and beat the world’s best.

Following their impressive performance at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket, D’Tigress has already secured a spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

They will also participate in the qualifiers alongside other African teams, including Mali, Senegal, and South Sudan.

The United States maintains its place at the summit of the rankings, followed closely by Australia and France.
