President Bola Tinubu has welcomed politicians from opposition parties to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying it’s not too late for them to abandon their “sinking ship” and “coalition of confusion.”

Speaking at the APC’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu urged party members to wholeheartedly embrace defecting politicians.

“It’s not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship and be absent from a coalition of confusion,” Tinubu said in a veiled reference to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The President noted that the APC’s doors are open to aspiring individuals willing to join the party.

“With the space that we have created to allow aspiring people to join us, our doors are still open and we should embrace them wholeheartedly,” Tinubu said.

This statement comes after the recent defections of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State from the PDP to the APC, bringing the party’s total number of governors to 23.
