Mr. Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, has clarified that he has accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

In a statement issued on Monday, Babangida described as “false and malicious” reports circulating on social media that he had rejected the appointment made by President Tinubu.

“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement read.

Babangida’s camp warned that individuals behind the spread of misinformation would be identified and held accountable, assuring the public that those spreading falsehoods would be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice.

Persecondnews reports that Babangida urged Nigerians to be cautious of false narratives and verify news from credible sources before sharing.

The appointment is part of a series of leadership changes announced by President Tinubu aimed at reinvigorating federal agencies and institutions.

The Bank of Agriculture plays a critical role in financing the nation’s agricultural sector and rural development.

The statement was authenticated by Kazeem Afegbua, a long-standing spokesperson for Gen. Babangida.

The forged rejection letter that circulated over the weekend, allegedly addressed to the President, claimed Babangida declined the appointment due to “personal and professional considerations.”
