President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tinubu lauded Buhari as a courageous and righteous man who served Nigeria with the fear of God and discipline.
The meeting, originally postponed to avoid conflicting with Buhari’s state funeral in Daura on Tuesday, July 15, was rescheduled to ensure a proper tribute could be paid.
In his address, President Tinubu highlighted that the late President Buhari’s patriotism was demonstrated more through his actions than his words.
“He wasn’t perfect but he was a good and honorable man. His records will be debated as every public leader but his character and his incorruptible stands won’t be forgotten,” he said.
“His Legacy would be carved in democracy were he restored the faith of Nigerians back, we formed an alliance that enable Nigerians experienced good governance.”
The President further described Buhari’s life as one of austere honour, saying, “He stood always ramrod, unmoved by the temptation of power, unseduced by applause, and unafraid of the loneliness that sometimes comes to those who do what is right rather than popular.”
Persecondnews reports that the immediate family of the late President, led by his wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and his son, Yusuf Buhari, was in attendance at the FEC meeting, following the third day prayer for the repose of the soul of the late former President at his family residence in Daura, Katsina State.
The special FEC meeting serves as a platform for the government to pay its last respects to the late former president, who played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s history.
