The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has started building its ambitious permanent secretariat in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

This initiative aims to significantly boost the NOC’s infrastructure and operational capabilities, as the new secretariat will serve as its official headquarters.

The five-hectare site for the secretariat was allocated to the NOC by the Federal Government at the Aviation Village.

The project site was officially unveiled during a recent board meeting of the committee in Abuja on June 11, 2025.

Tony Nezianya, the NOC spokesman, said in a statement sent to Persecondnews that key sports figures, including NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olapade, were present to assist NOC President Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel.

Gumel was also accompanied by members of the Executive Committee and the board.

Gumel announced that the five-floor secretariat project will be completed in phases and will feature various sports training facilities upon completion.

He expressed optimism that “this project will not only improve training standards but also contribute to the success of Nigerian athletes on the global stage.”

These facilities are designed to meet the needs of various federations affiliated with the NOC.

They will create an environment conducive to training, development, and sporting excellence as Nigeria prepares for upcoming international competitions like the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

The new headquarters will also enable federations to host crucial training camps, workshops, and seminars, all vital for improving the standards of Nigerian athletes.

The meeting also addressed several other important issues, including the ongoing National Federations elections and the OlympAfrica project at Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
