In response to the growing challenge of food insecurity across the nation, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has announced its intention to host a solemn prayer and fasting sessions at the ministry.
An internal memo, signed by Mrs. Adedayo Modupe, Director of Human Resource Management, obtained by Persecondnews, indicates that participating staff members will convene to seek divine guidance and protection, thereby supporting the ministry’s role in the government’s broader initiative to achieve national food security.
The memo reads: “All Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, Value Chain Desk Officers, and staff of the ministry have been invited to gather for collective prayers under the theme: ‘Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development.’
“The sessions are scheduled to take place in Conference Hall ‘B’ at the ministry’s headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, June 16th, 23rd, and 30th, 2025.
“Staff members have been requested to attend in a state of fasting, as the ministry seeks spiritual strength and alignment in its mission to ensure food availability and agricultural sustainability across Nigeria.”
In a sudden change of plans, however, a second memo signed by the Director on Friday evening announced the postponement of the prayer session that was scheduled to begin on Monday.
The memo did not give any reason for the postponement but instructed all staff members to comply.
Persecondnews reports that this development comes as social media has been abuzz with strong criticism of the ministry’s spiritual approach to the nation’s food security issues, with many arguing for the implementation of concrete policies and programmes to revolutionize agriculture instead.
