Tinubu to Honour Senators, Reps with National Awards on June 12

President Bola Tinubu will confer national honours on select federal legislators on June 12 to commemorate Democracy Day, according to a statement by House Spokesman Akin Rotimi Jr.

The event will take place during a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly, where Tinubu will be the special guest of honour and address the legislators.

The programme will feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of national honours on select legislators by President Tinubu.

This year’s theme is “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”

The joint sitting marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, highlighting the National Assembly’s role in safeguarding democratic values, promoting accountability, and advancing national development.

Rep. Rotimi emphasized the importance of reflecting on the country’s democratic progress and reaffirming commitment to building a better nation.

He urged Nigerians to use Democracy Day as an opportunity to reflect, renew their patriotism, and work towards a more inclusive, prosperous, and united nation.
