Just In: Shake-Up in Ondo Assembly: Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader Quit

1.3k

The Ondo State House of Assembly experienced a significant leadership change on Tuesday as Deputy Speaker Abayomi Akinruntan and Majority Leader Ogunmolasuyi both resigned from their positions.
Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency 1, and Ogunmolasuyi, representing Owo Constituency 1, are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
They publicly announced their resignations on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary session, which was overseen by Speaker Olamide Oladiji.
Akinruntan cited existing political power-sharing arrangements within the state as the primary reason for his resignation.
Following these developments, the House quickly moved to fill the vacant roles.
Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker, while Olatunji Oshati, from Ose State Constituency, has stepped into the role of Majority Leader.
