The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues its determined fight against internet fraud, apprehending at least 120 individuals suspected of cybercrime in Lagos.

This significant operation, part of a wider effort to clamp down on cybercriminal activities throughout the state, was announced by the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC stated that the arrests occurred on Monday and were executed by officers from its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1.

The agency attributed the success of the operation to “credible intelligence and diligent surveillance.”

The commission further detailed that the suspects include 95 males and 25 females, all of whom were caught in various Lagos locations identified as hotspots for cybercrime.

The statement reads: “Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), have arrested 120 suspected internet fraudsters, comprising 95 male and 25 female, at various locations in Lagos.

“Items recovered during the operation include 26 exotic cars, expensive pieces of jewellery, high-end smartphones, laptops, and several incriminating documents linking the suspects to alleged fraudulent activities.”

The Commission said the operation aimed to curb cybercrime and digital fraud in Nigeria, targeting urban areas where these activities are increasingly prevalent.

“The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence and thorough surveillance regarding their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud,” It said.

The EFCC said the suspects were undergoing further questioning and forensic analysis and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes, urging the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.
