Remo Stars Make History as NPFL Champions

1.2k

Remo Stars Football Club has been crowned the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, marking a historic milestone for the club and Ogun State.

The Sky Blue Stars celebrated their maiden league title with a decisive 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday.

Despite conceding an early goal, Remo Stars responded with four unanswered goals from Sikiru Alimi, Ibrahim Shuaibu, Babatunde Bello, and Olamilekan Adedayo.

This title triumph is significant not only for Remo Stars but also for Ogun State, which has never produced a top-flight league champion since its creation in 1976.

Remo Stars’ victory marks the first time a privately-owned team has won the title in over two decades, with the club accumulating 71 points, 10 points clear of second-placed Rivers United.

The festivities in Ikenne were a testament to the team’s dedication and hard work.

The club transformed its stadium grounds into a carnival-like atmosphere, with popular Nigerian artiste Shoday headlining the event.

The first 1,500 fans received free refreshments, and exciting giveaways, including smartphones, a 55-inch Smart TV, and round-trip tickets from ValueJet Airlines, added to the excitement.

While Remo Stars celebrated their title win, Rivers United and Abia Warriors confirmed their places in next season’s CAF competitions.

Persecondnews recalls that Rivers United secured second place with 61 points, while Abia Warriors claimed third place with 60 points.

Sunshine Stars’ fate was sealed after a 2-1 loss to Niger Tornadoes, confirming their relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL). Nasarawa United secured top-flight survival with a thrilling 3-2 win over Enyimba.
