The Unity Cup Invitational Tournament is making a comeback in May 2025, featuring top-notch football teams from Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana, and Trinidad & Tobago. These nations will clash at the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, West London, in a week-long celebration of football, culture, and community.

Persecondnews reports that the tournament, which was last held about 20 years ago, promises to be an exciting celebration of football, culture, and community.

“We are proud to bring back The Unity Cup. It’s been a long journey to revive this important community event, and we’re delighted that fans of African and Caribbean football will once again enjoy top-tier international football at Unity Cup 2025,” said Rotimi Pedro of AfroSport.

The tournament will kick off with a thrilling semi-final match between Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica on May 27, 2025, followed by a highly anticipated clash between Nigeria and Ghana on May 28, 2025.

The losers of the semi-finals will compete in a third-place game, and the final will determine the Unity Cup 2025 champions on May 31, 2025.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a statement on Thursday expressed its excitement about participating in the tournament, citing the opportunity for the team to bond ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

“We signed on to the tournament as it offers a vital opportunity for our team to bond ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September,” said NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Eric Chelle, noted that the tournament will provide a chance to try out new players and strengthen the squad.

Chelle said: “We’re looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October.”

Marcus Gayle, Brentford FC ambassador and former Jamaican international, welcomed the Unity Cup back to the Gtech Community Stadium, highlighting the tournament’s role in showcasing elite football talent from Africa and the Caribbean and celebrating the deep cultural and sporting ties between these regions.

“This tournament will not only showcase elite football talent from Africa and the Caribbean, but also celebrate the deep cultural and sporting ties between these regions,” he said.
