Dr. Doyin Okupe, a renowned physician, politician, and former presidential spokesperson, has passed away at the age of 72.

Okupe’s death was confirmed by Tolu Ogunlesi, former Special Assistant on Digital/New Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who in a post on his official X handle said: “May Okupe’s soul rest in peace. Amen.”

According to the family, Okupe had been critically ill for several weeks before his passing, with his health deteriorating significantly

Persecondnews reports that Okupe’s family has yet to confirm his death, but sources indicate that he had been battling cancer for several years, including prostate cancer and sarcoma in his right shoulder.

A distinguished politician, Okupe served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was also the Director-General of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign team and a former Vice-Presidential candidate for the party.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for Okupe, with many remembering him as a kind, compassionate, and principled individual who dedicated his life to serving others.

Some people who have commented on his passing said his legacies as a politician, physician, and humanitarian will be deeply missed.
