A crucial meeting is underway at the Lagos State House of Assembly, bringing together ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, current Speaker Mojisola Meranda, and all the lawmakers.

The high-stakes gathering has drawn key figures, including APC state Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi and state Attorney General Lawal Pedro (SAN), indicating a critical discussion about the leadership crisis in the House.

There is an indication that the leadership crisis may soon be resolved, with reports suggesting that Speaker Meranda is expected to step down today.

Persecondnews gathered that President Bola Tinubu and top APC leaders have reached a resolution on the ongoing crisis.

After weeks of negotiations, it was decided that current Speaker Mojisola Meranda will step down to make way for a new Speaker from Lagos West as this aims to balance power among the three senatorial districts, as Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is from Lagos Central and his deputy from Lagos East.

The resolution also finalized the exit of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who lost the confidence of lawmakers and party leaders.

Obasa arrived at a meeting with lawmakers around 1:30 pm, joining them under a tent outside the chambers.

However, in a surprising move, Obasa, Meranda, Ojelabi, and the State’s Attorney General broke away from the main group of lawmakers to convene a separate meeting.

The Lagos Assembly has been embroiled in turmoil since Obasa’s removal as Speaker on January 13, and things took a dramatic turn when he staged a comeback on February 27, presiding over a brief plenary session with only four lawmakers in attendance.
