Suspended Ogun Monarch Arraigned for Assaulting Septuagenarian

The suspended monarch in Ogun State, the Olorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi who assaulted an elderly man, Mr. Oloye Areola Abraham, was on Tuesday summarily lcharged to court by the police.

He was slammed with a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the now suspended Oba who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail.

The case has been adjourned until March 6, 2025

“He was granted bail while the case was adjourned to 06/03/2025. The police will continue to uphold the rule of law and the core values of the noble profession,” said Adejobi.

Persecondnews reported that Oba Ogunjobi had in a viral video that went viral assaulted the elderly man and raining curses on him.

His cap was removed, slapped and made to prostrate for the monarch.

He was heard in the footage threatening to kill or send the old man who pleaded that he was unwell and knew nothing about the allegation to jail.

The monarch also boasted that he was in control of the police.

In a swift reaction, the Ogun State Government suspended Ogunjobi for six months.

“After the investigation conducted on the matter, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise on the allegation.

“The foregoing decision was reached by the Ministry in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021,” the Ogun State Ministry of Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs Ministry said in the statement.
