Nigerian actress Jemima Osunde has opened up about a life-altering ordeal that began three years ago during a movie shoot in Ibadan.
In a post on made during the week, the actress revealed how a case of food poisoning on set has left her battling chronic health issues ever since.
“I regret going to Ibadan to shoot,” Osunde confessed, reflecting on the decision that led to years of health struggles.
While working on the set, she contracted Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) from the food provided, an infection that later developed into gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Describing her plight, the actress wrote, “My own stomach is my greatest op. Actually, my entire GIT. SMH. I’ve never regretted anything the way I regret taking that job and going with them to Ibadan to shoot under their care. Got H. pylori from set food, and the aftermath GERD has left me fighting for my life the last three years. The past month has really been something. Sigh.”
H. pylori, commonly transmitted through contaminated food or water, is a serious infection that, if untreated, can cause chronic inflammation, ulcers, and other complications like GERD.
For Osunde, the last three years have been a battle to regain her health, made harder by the emotional toll of regretting a decision that seemed ordinary at the time.
“I can’t believe one job could turn my life upside down,” she hinted in replies to fans.
“I regret it, but I’ve learned so much,” Osunde said, adding “Now, I’m more careful with what I eat and where I work. I just hope no one else has to go through this.”
