The Nigerian senior men’s national rugby team, the Stallions, suffered a 34-10 defeat at the hands of host nation Tunisia in the ongoing Rugby Africa Cup qualifiers in Jemmal.

Despite a closely contested first half, Tunisia’s superiority shone through in the second half, as they exploited gaps in Nigeria’s defence to secure a decisive victory.

The Stallions, who earlier lost to Zambia in their opening game, will face Ghana in a placement match.

To keep their qualification aspirations alive, the team must regroup and deliver a top-tier performance.

Nigeria’s rugby team has been facing challenges, including a lack of preparation and financial support, which has hindered their ability to compete effectively in international tournaments.

Persecondnews recalls that the team’s head coach, Steve Lewis, had expressed concerns about their preparedness, citing a lack of financial support as a major hindrance.

With only one day to train before the tournament, the team faces an uphill task in the competition.

The winner of Pool A will secure a spot in the repechage grand finale against Morocco, champions of Pool B, with the ultimate goal of advancing to the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup in Kampala, Uganda.
