Popular content creator and entrepreneur Amarachi Amusi, also known as Ashmusy, has refuted claims that prominent Nigerian politicians fund her opulent lifestyle.
Speaking during an emotional interview with Chude Jideonwo on With Chude, a section of it monitored by Per Second News, Ashmusy shared the struggles behind her rise to success, vehemently denying claims of having romantic ties to influential figures like Dino Melaye.
Addressing the persistent rumours, Ashmusy stated: “I built everything by myself. There was no sugar daddy, no ‘runs,’ no cutting corners.”
She described her journey as one filled with determination and resilience, highlighting the challenges of growing up in poverty.
Recounting her early life, the influencer revealed that she lived in a one-room apartment with her mother and 20 other people.
Despite the dire circumstances, she revealed how her mother worked tirelessly, enduring loan sharks to provide for the family.
Ashmusy shared how she borrowed items like wigs to create an image of success while struggling to make ends meet.
She also disclosed attending over 100 auditions, including for Big Brother Naija, all of which ended in rejection.
“I had to pretend to be a ‘big girl’ just to get noticed, but it wasn’t easy. I went through so much to get here,” she said.
The content creator became emotional while discussing the public scrutiny she faces.
“The media and social media comment sections have been hell. They have questioned my talent, morals, and source of income. It’s been tough, but I’ve continued to push forward,” she said, tearing up during the session.
Ashmusy admitted that she had to adjust her dress sense to counter stereotypes about her wealth and lifestyle.
Despite the backlash, she remains proud of her accomplishments, which include multiple successful businesses.
“I am just getting started,” she declared confidently.
Nigerians online, however, greeted her revelations with scepticism.
Many questioned the authenticity of her claims, particularly her account of attending Madonna University, a prestigious private institution, while claiming to have grown up in poverty.
One commenter wrote, “You live in a face-to-face apartment with 20 people but could afford Madonna University? The story doesn’t add up.”
Another added: “People sell everything they own to send their kids to private schools. Poverty doesn’t mean education isn’t possible.”
For Ashmusy, however, the focus is on her growth.
“People can say whatever they want, but I know the truth about my journey,” she said.
