Just three months into the new season, Manchester United fired Erik Ten Hag as manager.

Sunday’s 2-1 loss to West Ham proved the final straw for United’s chiefs.

Ten Hag’s departure comes despite his contract extension to 2026 in July. He will receive a significant compensation package.

Assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy takes over on an interim basis.

The permanent role is associated with Thomas Frank, Ruben Amorim, Edin Terzic, and Xavi.

The England manager is Thomas Tuchel, who was previously under consideration.

Ten Hag joined United in 2022, winning two trophies: the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

However, league form worsened, with the club finishing eighth last season and currently languishing in the bottom half.

Ten Hag faced mounting pressure ahead of the international break, which prompted an executive meeting.

They also removed Sir Alex Ferguson from his ambassadorial role.

United seeks the right appointment to succeed Ten Hag after failing to win the Premier League title in 11 years.

Ten Hag joins David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralf Rangnick as managers unable to restore United’s glory.
